lulz.
My baby is alive! This brings me infinite joy :)
This is long overdue: It’s really frickin’ cool to watch through Tumblr, Facebook, or talking in person, my Spoppers lead fantastic amazing lives and have really cool adventures and growth at UCI and beyond. They are all so awesome!
It’s Day 2 for SPOP 7 2011. Anniversaries of all sorts are a big deal to me and this one is a real big deal to me. How do I begin to describe the amazing experience it was to Staff four SPOP’s? I can’t. So I’ll leave with a shoutout to the wonderful halls I was given the extraordinary chance to Staff.

A follow up Thought on what I just posted, as well as an unrelated Thought. First topic is SPOP/Band, second topic is sexism. Highly probable self-aggrandizement ahead.

Sometimes I worry that people who didn’t have a good experience or rejected the opportunity to have a good experience at SPOP go around telling their friends/others about how much they hated it, and that in turn others close their minds to the experience. When I think about it though, I realize that it’s OK. Because if there is magic to SPOP, one of it’s greatest magical abilities is to bring even close-minded people out of their shell, whatever type it may be (shy, arrogant, etc). It’s not a 100% successful program. No program can change everyone’s lives. But I know from anecdotes and from experience that this program works pretty darn well, that the majority of newly minted Anteaters leaving the residences halls during Day 2 will have had a good, memorable time. If you haven’t done SPOP yet, please try to go in with an open mind, you won’t be disappointed. And even if you do go in unhappy, I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
If I reminisce too much about staffing last year, my eyes start to tear up.
There are bigger, more important things to do in life. Yeah everyone has to move on with their lives. But holy effing cow that was the most amazing spring quarter and summer EVER. SO SURREAL right now, reminiscing.
Found this little gem with the search “spop lightyear” and had myself a good cry.
My high school had their first football game of the year today and I went to support and watch the Marching Band. I’d visited one of their rehearsals this summer and heard that the new Orchestra Director/Assistant Band Director was a graduate from UCI. I didn’t think much on that beyond it was really cool to have an Anteater be a teacher for the band. Today as I was watching the band the Band Director pulled me aside and asked me “What is that program you’re involved with on campus? Something like Sp..?” I replied “Yeah, the orientation program SPOP”. He gets this big grin on his face and tells me that the new Assistant Band Director, Ms. Lee, was a “SPOPper” and always talks about “SPOP”.
