This is very important. The very concept of a for-profit prison is, in my opinion, unethical and contrary to the actual purpose of prisons (to either hold dangerous criminals or rehabilitate/reintegrate small time offenders back into society). But if your prison literally gains profit by getting more inmates, that’s a real big incentive to influence policy to get more inmates. That’s the prison industrial complex, a negative self perpetuating cycle that gets more inmates for more profit, profit that is used to influence policy to get more inmates.
