I just read a comments section of something and I totally regret doing so because I read some comments from people arguing that racism is no longer an issue in present day United States. One of those moments when I wanted to pull my hair out, facepalm, then facedesk, then go into a fetal position.
I figure I should give context. This is the photo, shared by the official Facebook page of George...

Push like a man!
– One man to another while trying to load a delivery cart in Manhattan. (via microaggressions)
Reblogged from microaggressions.
This is funny because if we play this silly game of gender roles, then he should have said “Push like a woman!” because “women” often have to do...

A Note on How did I get Here (Social Justice)
During the discussion yesterday it was brought up about how difficult it is to educate other people about the various social justice issues, which is hard enough, but to also educate them about the range of critical theories that social justice is based on. I think it would a good exercise then to list out “important” events that contributed to my development of a passion for social...

Apparently
I’ve been getting emotional a lot recently. At Vibe I started tearing up a little at one point because I was so enthralled by the passion of the dancers. And today (Monday) I started tearing up just a little listening to one of the people I look up to so much as such an amazing role model.

A Quick Note on Attacking the Institution
Today we had a guest lecture come in and talk about, among other things such as facilitating workshops/discussions, white identity.
I’m tired and have a super busy day ahead of me, so here’s the lite version.
Basically he said that it’s important not to focus too much on specific people being bad. That while necessary, it ultimately does little to solve the problem. The...

I Went to Pippin Today (Got Swiped in too!)
And it was delicious and filling as expected.
But as we left around 8:00, I saw that MEHO was dark. I asked and found out that due to budget cuts, MEHO closes at 8:00pm now, and apparently isn’t even open on the weekends? This makes me personally all kinds of sad.
I like to tell this story a lot, but really, one of the best unexpected experiences out of a multitude of unexpected...

I’m surprised that I never took the time to know the formal definition, but apparently Google Dictionary says that
“Art” means ”The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power”
I’ve been thinking it...

A Quick Note on "Good News", "Bad News", and...
So I thought of something when I saw this article plastered on the front of Yahoo News: Jury finds Afghan family guilty in honor killings.
Just from the title you can tell it’s a very shocking type of story, you know? Like, it is framed in a way that’s intended to elicit shock and horror. Which it should, because it is a horrible piece of news.
But really, how...
At Vibe
Addendum: Here is the video! http://youtu.be/J-wiSFzF_8U
One of the competing dance crews was a group that came all the way from Japan. Their name is “Kaori Alive”. I can’t find any information about them on the web, probably because it might be a generic combination of words, or they simply don’t have a webpage. Anyways, if I remember correctly they were introduced as a...
It's Annoying
Yet understandable that most simple dictionaries like Google Chrome and Microsoft Word’s Spellchecks don’t recognize many of the activist/ally words that I’ve been learning to use.
Fun Fact of the Day:
Before I watched Star Wars, when I was very young, I thought it was a “Light Saver”. Only much later did I realize it was actually a “Light Saber”.

I Was Just at Vibe
Which is basically one of the biggest Dance Crew competitions in Southern California.
Needless to say, it was extremely awesome, and I’ll be writing a post later in which I gush about dancing and how I wish I could stop being lazy or be involved with less academics/activities so that I can start taking dance classes again.
But something struck me as I watched some of the crews. Overall,...

Fascinating little look at the rise of K-Pop and what that means for Asian American-based entertainment in the United States.
I Realize
this may be a problematic or exotifying statement. So I apologize if it is, and please let me know if it is.
But today there was a womon (am I using this right?) who was so comfortable with talking about being queer/lesbian. I’ve met a number of queer/gay identified men in recent times, but rarely have I met openly queer identified womyn. But it also reminds me of how important it is to...
Each college has it’s own culture and politics and situations. Organizing API can be so complicated.
College turnover rate of student leadership is so frustrating.
Perceived and real differences in agendas is a major obstacle to coalition building.
We UC’s think we have it bad. Cal States, Claremont, privates have it worse. USC has it the worst, apparently.
Question of the Century
How do we make our issues accessible and important to people who are not necessarily politicized?
In the midst of over a hundred Asian Pacific American student activists and interested students. Amazing.
