Perform
Seeing all those dance teams perform at Vibe on Sunday was amazing to say the least. It’s been awhile since I’ve watched a serious group performance of this type and sometimes I would focus less on their ridiculous dance moves that are on the edge of human physical capabilities, and focus on their facial expressions, their passions painted all over their faces. Seeing those faces...

Sister
On the books I have one younger sister. But forever and always I will always also have an older sister, my “Jie jie” in Chinese. She doesn’t use facebook much, so I was surprised to see a tagged photo of her. On the books she’s actually my cousin. But when I saw that tagged photo, I didn’t think “cousin” in my mind like I would for all my other cousins; I...

44
About a week or two into Winter Break I decided to pick up piano again. I’ve been learning a transcribed version of Katy Perry’s Firework. It’s about five pages long and I’ve tried to learn a new page every week, on the 12 year old electric keyboard I brought from home. A few minutes ago, after about 44 days working on this song, after about five years of not playing piano,...

There’s a lot of debate raging around these days about how important a college education really is, and how good the college education Americans are getting.  My opinion? College’s truly are moving away from being the “vocational” institutions they were in the past. I’m still two quarters away from being halfway though undergraduate college and I have already been...

A tragic slippery slope for Google. Censoring in China is reasonable because Google is a business that needs to abide by the government’s laws. But censoring for commercial purposes? And for such broad terms? I’ve used Bit Torrent, Megaupload, and Rapidshare many times to distribute my own, legal, content to my friends.

Test
I did this Johari thing way back in middle school and high school on the same website. To some extent I find it cheating to ask for other people to directly tell me what they think of me like this but hey it’s an expedient and interesting experiment. Recent events also require that I start re-evaluating myself again. Select five or six positive adjectives that you think describe me here ...

One
One of the weirdest days I’ve EVER had. Most days can be categorized as “good” or “bad” but today… I just don’t know. Funky week overall too.

Good
Why do I always say “I’m doing good”? In my fanatical drive to be modest in my life I always hide my true emotions and words. For years, or at the very least an entire year and a half I would have like to say “My life is f***ing awesome”. But I tend to reserve such passion for blogs and…

Last
Last year I had the ridiculously stupid and selfish idea that I shouldn’t apply again until my third or fourth year, just so I could “go out with a bang”. I’m glad that 8 weeks of training and a magical summer later I’m applying right here and now. I don’t think I’m the best, but I think I can do a great job, and so I offer my application and my service if...

Crazy
My Asian American Studies professor spoke (yesterday) on the subject of the shooting in Arizona. This is what he basically said: No one can prove that the political rhetoric or Sarah Palin’s cross-hair graphic drove this man to shoot innocent people. Without a doubt, he was crazy before going on a shooting rampage, killing innocent people. Without a doubt, the Virginia Tech, Columbine, and...

You know what stinks?
carolynbrown: Being so busy focusing on stress and chores and to-do lists and obligations and tests and work and the future and uncertainty and headaches and lack of sleep to realize that today marks a day in history where we are supposed to be reminded of how far human kind can reach and how high human kind can climb, slowly, but surely to achieve a new level of trust, respect and love for each...

Unexpected
In an unexpected turn of events my newly made plans for third year living were thrown out the window and now I’m back to the original plan, to apply for VDCN CA. A plan that I did not start on because of the new plan. The application is due Wednesday, at 10AM. I have 4.5 hours of class on Tuesday, a Homecoming event to cover for Yearbook, a Yearbook Meeting, Pep Band Rehearsal, and a 12...

Great Expectations
I’m not going to lie. I had so much hope and expectation for that venture. You know in Inception, when Leo is like “This is it, this is the last, final job, and everything will be OK again”. I really felt like that. I put all my faith into this venture that if it succeeds then everything will be OK. But instead of pulling off a masterful and intricate plan to finish the job, the...

Both Ways
Every now and then when a post comes up on my Tumblr feed, a picture of some incredibly fit and slick/good looking guy, I can’t help but feel just a small smidgen of sadness. Usually it’s accompanied by some comment or multiple comments regarding how hot the guy is. It’s not a big deal, but it’s there, this little thought of “Well, I don’t look like that. Will...

Dear Texas
I’m taking a college course in Asian American studies. In two weeks I’ve tripled my understanding of how the Caucasian majority has discriminated Asian Americans like me for over a hundred years. I’m upset, I’m angry. But I’m not going to hate “white” people. I’m not going to be disloyal to the United States of America just because its majority...

Healthcare Reform Rant
konscience: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/07/us/politics/07cong.html?src=un&feedurl=http://json8.nytimes.com/pages/health/index.jsonp Disclaimer: This is a heated political rant. I normally don’t do this, but healthcare reform is something I really care about. Primarily because it will affect the future of my intended profession as well as the lives of many many people. Firework
I’m very optimistic about this year. I really believe if I put my mind and time to it I can achieve pretty much anything. A big reason why I feel this way is because of piano. Backstory: I played piano for a good 3-4 years starting around the 6th grade. Since high school I haven’t been able to play any piece besides Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. In the middle of winter break 2010 I...

Ridiculous
Reading about racist views right before and during World War II for Asian American Studies. Just read about British notions that Japanese soldiers couldn’t possibly be an effective fighting force. It’s utterly ridiculous. I can’t imagine living in a time when people actually thought that other people are inherently lesser than themselves.

Responsible
Fair warning this is a thinly veiled passive-aggressive post.  It’s apparently proper etiquette not to post depressing or “emo” statuses on Facebook. But it is ok to post such statuses on Twitter or on Tumblr. Since Tumblr is a blog people find it ok to express the pains they hold deep within with the understanding that there is a measure of privacy. I’ve personally...

Fascinating
Today I had my second lectures for both Asian American Studies 60B and Informatics 131 (Human Computer Interaction). I wasn’t at the top of my game for both lectures today because I neglected to complete the readings but I understood what was going on in class. Funny as it sounds I almost cried during Asian American Studies. I was just so happy and shocked that I’ve had the grand...
